about

Sink is the product of several life changes: the end of a long relationship, my transition from college into the workforce, relocation, struggles with depression, life choices; general mid-20's confusion. These songs were my way of chronicling, synthesizing, and moving past these changes. Demo-ed from late September - December 2008, These tracks were recorded sporadically through the first quarter of 2009, while touring the east frequently in support of CD-r demos I'd release and shirts I'd print to afford gas, food, and beer. Unfortunately, the more time I sank into these recordings, the more difficult it became to feel satisfied with the way they were turning out. I think this is a common occurance for some folks who put a great deal of effort into something that just doesn't come out sounding the way they'd hoped.

Eventually, this project started feeling outdated to me, and was shelved until some time later when it was pressed on limited run cassette (100, gray) for what would have been Funny/Not Funny Records 3rd catalog release. Unfortunately, the tape was never actually released, as the wrong track versions made it onto the tape, and we removed the release from the discography. I spent the next few months leaving a few cassettes in free bins at venues and record stores across the mid-atlantic.

So, a few years removed, here's "Sink Deluxe," a version of the record as far into the mixing stages as it got, with a few tracks reworked in the living room of Amanda and I's first apartment in Harrisonburg, VA. I'm still proud of all the effort that went into these songs. Like so many other projects, I wish this could have been fully realized. From this trying time in my life, I learned a great deal about myself, and a lot about community, kindness, and compassion. I'm forever grateful for those of you that hosted me, bought my recordings, fed me, and kept me company. A very big thank-you to Ben Schlabach for his patience in engineering this, and for his jolly company as I worked through these songs.
